Heritage Lottery Fund Project
Autumn 2017 – many of the joints in the arbour were in a poor state of repair.
June 2018 – the first job was to renew the pointing beneath the arbour. This was a laborious task, mostly done on hands and knees! Many thanks to everyone who helped with this job.
Many, many, many hours of work later – looking very smart!
August 2018 – work on renewing the arbour itself started. Many volunteers and visitors spoke to our contractor, Joe, to find out more about the traditional techniques being used in the construction process.
August 2018 – Volunteers carefully untied the climbing roses from the arbour so that the next section could be built without damaging the plants.
Signs kept garden visitors informed about the project.
December 2018 – the final piece goes onto the arbour!
