As so often happens with January in this part of the country, we get our first real taste of winter weather. But there has been plenty for us to be getting on with and plenty for us to cheer.
We completed the last of our hazel coppicing, to give us plenty of staking material for later in the spring.
Apple pruning continues in the Jubilee orchard and some thinning of the trees has been done. One tree had died for some unknown reason and another had a bad case of apple canker to the main stem. Taking those two trees out will allow more light and air flow to the remaining trees and prevent any disease spreading to them too.
In the Community Garden timber bed edges have been completed, our DIY team are moving their attention to making cold frames and the renovation of the vegetable sales trolley is proceeding nicely.
A date for your diary – The Friends quiz night is on 24th February 2017 in the conference room, starting at 7.30.
